ICMP Plugin

The ICMP plugin is automatically enabled when you add a new device to enable you to perform a ping test from SevOne NMS to the addresses you specify for the device. This provides basic network response time information and basic up/down information about a device. The ICMP plugin enables you to display ping times and packet loss data on the Device Summary. Note: Many firewalls and other network equipment may drop ICMP packets instead of allowing packets to reach their destination. ICMP traffic is low priority traffic that is dropped first when a link is full.

The Cluster Manager > Cluster Settings tab enables you to report 100% availability in ICMP even if a single packet makes it through or to set the ICMP availability to the percentage of packets that make it through.

Perform the following steps to enable the ICMP plugin for each device from which you want to poll ICMP metrics.

  1. From the navigation bar, click the Devices menu and select Device Manager.

  2. Either add a device with the ICMP plugin or edit a device to enable the ICMP plugin.
